The Great Hack

‘The Great Hack’ is a Netflix original documentary. Quite interesting and a bit scary, it left me as well flabbergasted about what is wrong with many journalists and public intellectuals in the Anglo/Saxon World.

The movie is about the dangerous and explosive world of data exploitation through social media companies like Facebook or Data Companies like Cambridge Analytica. It shows, how Cambridge Analytica actively manipulated among others, the US election of 2016 and the UK Referendum of the same year. This movie should open a wide conversation, starting with Facebook going public by selling peoples Data, to how we should stop Facebook and co, find better social Media and do not let Mass Media (be it social, TV or Radio manipulate the public opinion) And using psychological warfare should be banned.

What I did not get, is why everybody tried to end the movie with “The Russians did it”. The Russians were so not needed. Cambridge Analytica and Facebook did it all by them-self. Maybe the Russians hacked and manipulated a bit as well, and that is not right. But it was not important in any of the outcomes.

The second strange thing for me was, how nobody was bother or considered it a crime, that Cambridge Analytica and Facebook had manipulated already many elections like in the Turks and Caicos or in Kenia, Nigeria, Italy, Latvia and so on. If this companies are American or British then this countries should be as well responsible.

Last but not least, it is very telling how nonchalantly Carole Cadwalladr ,Guardian, talks about the justified use of certain methods in place like Afghanistan, where one either:’ bombs the crap out of people who disagree or use psychological warfare’.

I guess none of the “Heroes” can even imagine that the world could and will change, and todays powers and government systems might soon be discarded as ridiculous and unjust.
