Patriotic Flag Waving

The flag I am nowadays supposed to wave was probably made in China. No, it is not a Chinese Flag; it is a Canadian one.

I am told as well, that China is almost an enemy because China is undemocratic. Still, it is cheaper to produce patriotism inducing items there. And cheap is right even if it is quite questionable, why we need flags and signs and stickers and all that in the first place..

Plus all this show off items are a total waste of natural resources and often end up after a short life in a dump. Oh, nobody will probably admit to throwing national flags in the garbage.

If our country were indeed that good, we would not need to spend money on symbolic items. We would know that we all belong here. We would care for each other and feel a sense of community, that no flag waving will ever create.

Maybe we would express ourselves through art and not through commerce.

The flag I was supposed to wave when I was young, was made in my country, GDR. It was not made from petroleum-derived material, because we never had enough oil.

I did not want to pretend back then, that this flag was more than just a piece of cloth, nor do I want to do this now.
