Facing History

America - Land of the Free

Many North-Americans today have a hard time coming to terms with there History of Genozide on the indigenous population, Slavery and Racial, Religious and Gender Discrimination.

We rather talk about how great it is here.

It seems to me, that in order to face History the immigrants or “Settlers” probably need to admit, that many of their ancestor did not actually came voluntarily here. Orphans, young women, criminals, and a whole bunch of poor people ended up in Northamerica by force. Indented labor it was sometimes called. Soldier got sold by Kings, children sent in slavery and many more sad stories happened. Maybe not many of these people survived - but to negate their existence means to forget about all the people who did never had the chance to pursue their happiness.” To prevent rebellion they were brainwashed into believing that at least they would be worth more that Natives and Black American or Chinese Workers.

Confronting this History might help to overcome the very bad, discriminating and abusive way of calling poor people “trash” and white poor people “white trash” . You call people that long enough and they might believe it somehow, developing the kind of self-loathing and aggression that might one day rip this continent apart.

Poor people are nor more trash than rich people, no matter what color they are. They did not choose to be born into this destitute situation, did not choose poverty. Many work harder than the middle-class citizen can ever imagine.
